Carpal Tunnel Release

Q: Where will my procedure be done?

A: Your procedure will be done as an outpatient. We are affiliated with Ambulatory Surgery Center, Spartanburg Regional Hospital System, SMC-Mary Black Campus, and Spartanburg Surgery Center

Q: How long will I be out of work?

A: Approximately 3-4 weeks. How long you will be out of work depends on the type of work you do.

Q: Will I be able to drive after surgery?

A: You will not be able to drive while you are taking medication.

Q: Will I need to be on blood thinners?

A: You will not need to be on blood thinners.

Q: Will I need Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy?

A: Your physician may prescribe Occupational Therapy.

Q: When will I be able to shower?

A: You will be able to shower once your stitches are removed.

Q: How long will I need to leave my dressing on?

A: You will need to leave your dressing on until your first physician visit after surgery.

Q: Will I have a brace?

A: You will be given a “Cock-up” wrist splint after your stitches are removed.

Q: When will I return to see my physician?

A: You will return to see the physician 7-14 days after your surgery.

Q: When will my stitches be removed?

A: Your stitches will be removed on your first visit after surgery (7-14 days). Stitches will be replaced by “Steri Strips” (small thin strips of surgical tape). You will leave these on until they fall off.

Trigger Finger Release

Q: Where will my procedure be done?

A: Your procedure will be done as an outpatient. We are affiliated with Ambulatory Surgery Center, Spartanburg Regional Hospital System, SMC-Mary Black Campus, and Spartanburg Surgery Center.

Shoulder Arthroscopy

Q: Where will my procedure be done?

A: Your procedure will be done as an outpatient. We are affiliated with Ambulatory Surgery Center, Spartanburg Regional Hospital System and SMC-Mary Black Campus.

Q: How long will I be out of work?

A: Approximately 8-12 weeks. How long you will be out of work depends on the type of work you do.

Q: Will I be able to drive after surgery?

A: You will not be able to drive while you are taking medication. When you are no longer taking pain medication and are able to turn the steering wheel easily you can resume driving.

Q: Will I need to be on blood thinners?

A: You will not need to be on blood thinners.

Q: Will I need Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy?

A: You will have Physical Therapy scheduled when you return to see the physician. If you have a shoulder manipulation you will have therapy on the same day as your surgery.

Q: When will I be able to shower?

A: Shower instructions will be in your post operative packet and/or you will be given verbal instructions. This varies slightly by physician.

Q: How long will I need to leave my dressing on?

A: Wound and Dressing care instructions will be in your post operative packed and/or you will be given verbal instructions. This varies slightly by physician.

Q: Will I have a brace?

A: You will be given a “sling” after your surgery.

Q: When will I return to see my physician?

A: You will return to see the physician 7-14 days after your surgery.

Q: When will my stitches be removed?

A: Your stitches will be removed on your first visit after surgery (7-14 days). Stitches will be replaced by “Steri Strips” (small thin strips of surgical tape). You will leave these on until they fall off.

Knee Arthroscopy

Q: Where will my procedure be done?

A: Approximately 6-8 weeks. How long you will be out of work depends on the type of work you do.

Q: Will I be able to drive after surgery?

A: You will not be able to drive while you are taking medication. We suggest you start with short trips. You will need to make sure you can apply the brakes and gas easily.

Q: Will I need to be on blood thinners?

A: You will not need to be on blood thinners.

Q: Will I need Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy?

A: You will be on a strict therapy regimen with specific time intervals and progressions.

Q: When will I be able to shower?

A: Shower instructions will be in your post operative packet and/or you will be given verbal instructions. This varies slightly by physician.

Q: How long will I need to leave my dressing on?

A: Wound and Dressing care instructions will be in your post operative packed and/or you will be given verbal instructions. This varies slightly by physician.

Q: Will I have a brace?

A: You will be given crutches and a ROM (Range of Motion) brace after you surgery.

Q: When will I return to see my physician?

A: You will return to see the physician 7-14 days after your surgery.

Q: When will my stitches be removed?

A: Your stitches will be removed on your first visit after surgery (7-14 days). Stitches will be replaced by “Steri Strips” (small thin strips of surgical tape). You will leave these on until they fall off.

Total Knee Replacement

Q: Where will my procedure be done?

A: Your procedure will be done as an inpatient. We are affiliated with Spartanburg Regional Hospital System and SMC-Mary Black Campus.

Q: How long will I be in the hospital?

A: You will need to be in the hospital 3-4 days.

Q: How long will I be out of work?

A: Approximately 6-12 weeks. Depending on which joint is replaced. How long you will be out of work depends on the type of work you do.

Q: Will I be able to drive after surgery?

A: You will not be able to drive while you are taking medication and you will need to be full weight bearing before you are allowed to drive. This will be discussed with you during your post operative. When you are allowed to begin driving we suggest you start with short trips. You will need to make sure you can apply the brakes and gas easily.

Q: Will I need to be on blood thinners?

A: You will be on blood thinners 2-4 weeks postoperative and will be monitored by home health.

Q: Will I need Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy?

A: Each patient is evaluated individually. Some patients will go to a rehabilitation center after discharge. Others will be discharged to home. If you are discharged Home Health will provide physical therapy until you are no longer homebound. When you are no longer homebound, you will continue outpatient physical therapy until you meet maximum range of motion.

Q: When will I be able to shower?

A: You may not shower until the stitches/staples are removed. After the stitches/staples are removed you can let warm soapy water run over the incision. Do not soak in the tub until the incision is fully healed.

Q: How long will I need to leave my dressing on?

A: Your incision dressing will remain on until your wound is fully healed, approximately 2-3 weeks. Your dressing will need to be changed daily.

Q: Will I have a brace?

A: You will be given a walker after surgery.

Q: When will I return to see my physician?

A: You will return to see the physician 7-14 days after your surgery.

Q: When will my stitches be removed?

A: Your stitches will be removed on your first visit after surgery (7-14 days). Stitches will be replaced by “Steri Strips” (small thin strips of surgical tape). You will leave these on until they fall off.
